First Art Records provides access to the world of digital graphics and design. Your project will most likely need to be represented in mediums which are primarily visual, such as a CD cover, or an internet website. Digital photograhpy and scanning can create powerful digital images, with or without added text, which can become part of logo designs and graphic layouts.

Digital photographs are the entrance into the digital graphic domain. First Art Records can shoot digital photographs using an Olympus C-700 2.1 megapixel camera, providing band photos, artwork, and other specialized pictures pertinent to your project. An example of a large gray-scaled promo photo can be seen here.

If you have a digital camera yourself, and have digital photographs stored on your computer's hard drive, copying them onto a CD-R allows you to transfer those images to First Art Records. They can then be used in appropriate ways in your project's visual layout.

Ditigal Photography uses:

  • CD cover and label artwork
  • Promotional pictures
  • Web photo galleries
  • Logo design
  • Website images

In addition to digital photography, scanning can bring photographs into the digital domain.   [ top ] [ next ]

If you have photographs in print form which you would like to use, First Art Records can scan them and bring them into the digital domain. This allows you to use older photographs, and current photos taken with conventional cameras. Image scanning produces detailed copies, so the cleaner the photograph surface is, the better the look of the final image will be. The Lexmark Z82 scanner tray is large enough for 8½ X 11 inch images.

Scanning uses:

  • Converting images to the digital domain
  • Extracting existing promotional designs
  • Extracting logo designs

Scanning is the bridge between conventional photography and the digital domain. Once images are scanned, they may be prepared for many uses. Thus, it is time for digital editing.   [ top ] [ next ]

Once you have your photographs and scanned material digitized, digital editing is often required. This can include anything from cropping pictures to making black-and-white images from color photos.

Digital Editing uses:

  • Image Processing
    • Cropping and resizing
    • Rotating and flipping
  • Image Formatting
    • Brightness, gamma, and hue
    • Sepia, grayscale, and true black-and-white
    • Negative and mono-colored
  • Artistic Effects
    • Blurring and sharpening
    • Embossing
    • Filter applications

Once your images are edited and formatted, they can become part of a larger whole. For images, this often means the process of text-addition.   [ top ] [ next ]

The addition of text to images is prevalent in website art, and in layout and design of CD cover artwork and band promotional material. First Art Records can add text to digital photographs, combine images into one composite picture, and modify elements of the photo to fit the overall design.

Text-Addition uses:

  • Photo labels and captions
  • CD covers and labels
  • Promotional materials
  • Logo design
  • Website images

Text-addition creates focus by combining imagery with lettering, wrapping up your message in one simple package. One of the most powerful ways to use this combination is in the development of a logo, a kind of emblem dedicated to your particular project or band.   [ top ] [ next ]

One way to connect your product to your promotion is through the use of a logo. Logos provide unique identification, and can consist of a name, an image, a color scheme, or combinations of these and other elements. First Art Records can help you develop your logo, and utilize it throughout CD cover designs, website layouts, and promotional materials. These can also be prepared in a variety of formats, and loaded onto a CD-Rom for your future use.

Logo Design uses:

  • CD covers and labels
  • Promotional materials
  • Website header or theme id.
  • Letterhead, business cards
  • E-mail signature

Once you have assembled all of the components of your digital graphics, the next step is to organize them into a comprehensive whole. This is the time for developing your various layouts, which can include CD covers and labels, promotional materials, and website design. First Art Records can plan and develop layouts in all of these areas. This offers the advantage of coordinating the look of your project, making recognition easy for your fans, audience, and professional contacts.

Layout uses:

  • CD covers and labels
  • Promotional materials
  • Website, individual web pages and sections

Now that you have the artwork organized, it's time to put that music on a disc. For that, First Art Records offers CD duplication and production with color inkjet printing on TuffCoat™ CD-R discs, using the Primera BravoDisc Publisher. [ next ]
